DIN  -Director Identification 

Number

This is an 8 digit unique identification number which is allotted by central government to each individual who wants to be director of any company.

As per section 153, Every individual intending to be appointed as director of a company shall make an application for allotment of Director Identification Number.

Form Required for applying DIN

DIR- 3

Attachments Required along with Form DIR-3

• photograph
• ID Proof
• Address Proof
• Board Resolution for proposing his appointment as applicant Director(Format Provided Below).

Applicant must have DSC for filing DIR-3 form as it is required to be signed digitally by the Applicant

* CS,MD,CEO,CFO or DIRECTOR of the respective company also required to sign such DIR-3 Form.

Authority for Allotment of DIN

Regional Director, Joint Director, Deputy Director or Assistant Director posted in the office of Regional Director at Noida (As per MCA notification dated the 21st May, 2014,)

Timing For Allotment Of DIN

As per Section 154, Authority shall allot DIN within ONE MONTH from the receipt of the application in DIR-3 Form .

Validity of DIN

Lifetime

Cancellation Or Deactivation of DIN

As per rule 11 of Appointment and Qualification Rules,2014,DIN can be cancelled if:

1. Individual having two DIN , then data related to both the DIN shall be merged with the validly retained number;
2. the DIN was obtained in a wrongful manner or by fraudulent means(an opportunity of being heard will be provided to the Individual)
3. of the death of the concerned individual
4. the concerned individual has been declared as a Individual of unsound mind by a competent Court;
5. if the concerned individual has been adjudicated an insolvent

DIN can be Deactivated  if:

Individual  has not File DIR-3 KYC or DIR-3-KYC-WEB as the case may be.

DIN surrender

DIN can be surrendered if

• Individual has never been appointed as Director in any company and
• said DIN has never been used for filing of any document with any authority

Applicant has to apply in Form  DIR-5 with the above declarations to surrender his DIN.

Que.1 Can an Individual Obtain More than One Director Identification Number.?

No, As per section 154, of companies act, 2013 No individual, who has already been allotted a Director Identification Number under section 154, shall apply for, obtain or possess another Director Identification Numb

Que.2  Is it mandatorily required to mention DIN always with Director Name ?

Ans- YES-As per Section 158 of Companies Act,2013, Every person or company, while furnishing any return, information or particulars as are required to be furnished under the Act, shall mention the Director Identification Number in such return, information or particulars in case such return, information or particulars relate to the director or contain any reference of any director.

Que .3 When Person is not a director in any company, still required to file DIR-3 KYC?

Ans- YES, As per Rule (12 a) of Appointment and qualification of Directors Rules .

Que.4 Can a Individual apply for DIN , who has already allotted a Director Identification Number under Sec 154

Ans. NO. Prohibited under section 155.
